Kim Søren Larsen

A creative, engaged and passionate artist, Kim Søren Larsen was born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1958. He studied at Columbia College Chicago (1978–81) and the University of Illinois Chicago (1981–82). In 1987 he founded the art group "the Coldhouse Group," which staged large "GORILLA" exhibitions in abandoned factory buildings in Chicago to considerable success.

In 1994 Larsen moved to Norway, where he served as a guest teacher at the Kunst Akademiet. He subsequently worked as a freelance photographer for DNV (Det Norske Veritas) while continuing to develop his own practice. Over the years he has built a broad network of artists and photographers across Norway, the USA, England and Scotland.

His work spans painting, photography and sculpture — from early photo-paintings on canvas with lead to large-scale ecological wood sculptures and pointillist digital photography. Recurring themes include the relationship between nature and human civilisation, the archaeology of faith, and the passage of time. He lives and works in Spydeberg, Norway.
